Distractions

I have been working on my next planned blog post for weeks.  The key word there is planned.  The simplest way to stay on top of your blog posts is to sit down, plan out some topics in advance, put them on your calendar and write to them when it is time.  Of course, life doesn’t always accommodate.  So, my blog post on our web process sits half finished on my desktop.  And, up until this moment, I have been super stressed about how long it has been since our last post.  Seriously, I wake up every day thinking “I’ve got to write that post” as I can hear time mocking me…tick tick tick.

Luckily, over some yummy wine from the Red Bird Wine Bar and some great conversation with clients Andrea Davis and Liz Stoekel last night, it dawned on me that I could simply write a blog post about how hard it is sometimes to write your blog posts.  Alisa, our designer and number one voice of reason – even after that yummy wine - suggested that I simply write about what is going on this week that is keeping me from that planned blog post.  So here it is.

We’re moving. We found a great place at 1207 S. Higgins, which is down almost to Great Harvest.  It’s a great space but it is a new space for us so that means we have been busy getting it ready for us.  “Out with the old, in with the new” seems to be our badass theme this year, so while we are making our new space new with paint and furniture etc, we are also busy getting rid of the old.  Everything from old job jackets to those glass desks that we have come to hate – all of it needs to go.  If you are looking for cheap office equipment, please give us a shout.

Alisa came over from Portland to help.  It’s really amazing how much easier it is to get rid of things when you have a whole crew.  Mike is the tear-it-all-out-throw-it-all-away-and-don’t-look-back one.  Alisa is the but-wait-you-will-need-that-stop-being-so-crazy-sensible one. I am the sorry-I-was-on-the-phone-where-did-I-put-that-box-do-we-really-need-that-many-samples-don’t-tear-up-that-business-license-please one.  And Zack and Melissa are the sweet what-can-we-do-to-help-but-please-don’t-dismantle-these-desks-yet ones.  One big slightly stressed family.

Meanwhile, at the new place, our friend and ubercarpenter, Kirk, is making us the coolest conference table ever with some antique floor tiles we picked up from our friends the Esteps.  Our walls are being painted as we speak in the Six Pony Hitch color scheme.  Alisa is busy plotting out shelving.  We’re getting a sign for the window.  We have a PO Box and our mail is being forwarded.  I’ve been on the phone getting Internet service, switching our address, etc.  Exciting times.

Then, tomorrow, in this crazy 14 below wind chill weather, we load up Boris – our friend Ginny’s big truck – and move.  Crazy.

While this has been going on, we’ve been fortunate enough to also be happily busy with work.  The holidays are officially over and it seems everybody is ready to build their brand, make their websites, and design some lovely new logos and packaging.  Big changes are afoot for lots of folks and it’s very exciting to be helping so many people make these transitions.

Speaking of transitions, what is up with our world this week? Egypt.  Libya.  New Zealand. What gives?  And then there is Helena.  We are so upset with those fools in our state legislature (http://missoulian.com/news/local/article_b98510ba-398f-11e0-b5af-001cc4c002e0.html) that staying focused has been a challenge.  And, if that wasn’t enough, those megaloads are looming - parked just at our border.  We certainly are feeling attacked from all sides lately.

Oh and my cat got sick.  Really sick.  But Dr. Sandy Moore and Dr. Dave Bostwick saved her.  Shout out to these awesome vets.

All this is just to say, it has been a crazy week and we are behind on our scheduled blog.  And sometimes that happens.  And if you find yourself having a crazy week and being behind on your scheduled blog, then don’t sweat it.  If your week is really too crazy to write what you were going to write then maybe it’s at least crazy enough to talk about.

So, as I look out our window and see the snow blowing sideways at gale force, I am once again reminded that this social media stuff is really about just telling it like it is.  Goodbye 259 W. Front Street. The ponies are off to their next stable.
